Frequently Asked Questions

Does it cost anything?

This book club has a pay-what-you-can model. The full fee is $100 a month. You can choose a discounted rate such as 75%, 50%, 25%, 10%, or 100%. I don’t want finances to be a barrier to you joining and participating. Pick a price that you feel honors your needs and that you can be at peace with. Perhaps some months you can afford to pay and others you can’t. Indicate your personal fee at time of registration. No questions asked. The fee is for the whole month regardless if you are able to attend each session ( like a gym membership ). You are able to cancel at anytime. Fees renew at the beginning of each month there is a book club.

How often do you meet?

We meet weekly VIRTUALLY using ZOOM Tuesdays at 12 noon. Meetings last 45 min. in case you need a few extra minutes over your lunch break. Occasionally we may have to skip a week or a whole month if there are holidays or if I’m unavailable. This happens rarely, and we discuss it as a group when it does happen.

What happens if I can’t keep up with the reading or need to miss a week?

No worries! We’re a relaxed group. I will break the book into 4 or 5 parts depending on the amount of Tuesdays and publish the reading schedule in advance. The weekly reading goals are recommendations for pacing, but there is no requirement to get it all done. Read what you can and come for the company and discussion regardless .

Do I have to have my screen on? Am I required to share, read, answer questions?

Verbal participation is voluntary and not required. Although I was a teacher for many years, I will not call on anyone to respond, ask questions or read aloud! I can feel my own heart beat racing thinking back on my own experiences in English class- eek. I do strongly prefer you have your screen to build community, however if you have privacy concerns, please talk to me about it and we can come up with a plan.

How are books chosen? Do you provide the book?

I pick from my own bookshelf or a book I have been wanting to read. I need the accountability too! If you have requests, send them to me. I often pick and publish the next three books at a time. You are responsible for acquiring the book from any book store or library. I encourage you to use whatever format matches your learning and financial needs be in audio book, physical book, or eBook.

Can I ask anonymous questions?

There will be several ways to ask questions regarding the topic at hand. 1st. opportunities to freely share questions or comments during our meetings. 2nd email me questions throughout the week as you read. 3rd. In session to me directly vs group in the chat. Although I may see your name, I will not share the name of the sender if it comes by email or by direct message.

Is this book club a therapy session?

Our book club is not intended as therapy. It is meant as a helpful resource and a possible complement to your individual or couples therapy.
